Airbus to Transfer A321XLR Technologies to the A321neo

Airbus has begun introducing technical improvements developed for the A321XLR across other members of the A321neo family under its STEP4 modernization programme. The initiative aims to improve structural efficiency, enhance operational performance and gradually update the production line.

The A321neo will receive the A321XLR’s lighter wing structure and single-slotted inboard flaps. It will also be equipped with intermediate flap settings to improve take-off performance, updated flight control laws, a lighter electronic rudder, an enhanced cabin temperature control system and new multifunction landing lights.

Some STEP4 upgrades will initially be introduced on the A320neo. These include a new auxiliary power unit air duct designed to improve cabin air quality, as well as structural measures to increase corrosion protection, including titanium cabin floor rails.

Deliveries of the first A320neo aircraft in the STEP4 configuration have begun, while the upgraded A321neo and A321XLR aircraft are expected to be delivered to customers in approximately one year.
